The FDA needs to change its policy on Gay Donors and it needs to change it NOW.
I’m tired of seeing my fellow queers blasting blood banks and the American Red Cross when the blame for the ban on gay and bisexual men donating blood falls squarely on the FDA refusing to update its blood donation guidelines since the early 80s. These same blood banks, along with a multitude of scientific organizations, have been trying and trying to get the ban lifted. The FDA has ignored numerous scientific studies, practical evidence from countries that have lifted the ban, and the pleas from humanitarian groups. People have been trying to get this ban lifted for nearly two decades, and the FDA still won’t change.
I know Obama can’t physically make the FDA do anything, but a public comment from the President about this would be hugely important in finally getting the FDA to listen.
